NPS supports and promotes the best use of medicines.
NPS Program Facilitators provide independent, balanced, therapeutic information that is based on nationally recognised guidelines, to doctors, pharmacists, other health workers and consumers on a range of topics.
For example; 2009/2010 topics included:
- Therapeutic choices for Menopausal Symptoms
- Management options to maximise sleep
- Finding Evidence- Recognising Hype(when assessing new medicines)
- Promotion of regular NPS Clinical Audits for GPs
- Common colds need common sense campaign
Promotion of the Home Medicines Review objective of providing patients with a plan to achieve safe, effective and appropriate use of medicines. HMRs works towards quality use of medicines by addressing issues such as compliance, contraindications, technique and storage of medications.
