East Gippsland Primary Health Alliance

Supporting general practices since 1993,  the East Gippsland Primary Health Alliance undertakes a positive role in the development and implementation of projects which assist General Practitioners (GPs) in many aspects of their business. Business management, the delivery of health care in an increasingly technological driven industry and effective promotion of prevention and early intervention initiatives.

The East Gippsland Division of General Practice has changed its name and constitution, placing it at the forefront of health reform in Gippsland. The new East Gippsland Primary Health Alliance (EGPHA) opens the door of membership to a broad multi-disciplinary team including specialists, allied health professionals, nurses, practice managers, paramedics and other stakeholders associated with primary care. The changes are in preparation for EGPHA’s bid to be among the first 15 Medicare Locals groups established by June under the health reform. Our driving force is a determination to keep the organisation local. Become a member and strengthen the EGPHA’s efforts to keep local clinicians representing and serving our local communities.

Encompassing East Gippsland and Wellington Shires, geographically our catchment covers approximateley 32,000km2 of which 80% is public land. It is a geographically diverse region of coastal plains, river valleys, foothills, tablelands and mountains up to 1,400 metres elevation. The population of approx 75,600 persons includes an estimated 1,572 Indigenous Australian’s forming 3.1% of the East Gippsland Shire and 1.1% of the Wellington Shire population. This is the third highest proportion by a Victorian division. East Gippsland Division is committed to reducing the health inequalities experienced by our Indigenous Community.

The area is serviced by 78 General Practitioners and 18 Registrars who deliver primary medical care from 29 General Practice locations. The diversity of practice sites includes, full time group practices, solo practices, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation’s (ACCHO), Fulham Correctional Centre, East Sale RAAF Base and outreach practices in rural and remote areas.  The Primary Health Alliance supports practices in the towns of Mallacoota, Orbost, Lakes Entrance, Nowa Nowa, Bairnsdale, Metung, Paynesville, Omeo,Sale, Maffra, Heyfield, Loch Sport & Rosedale.
